7.    Guest Speaker: Melanie McCann from the Santa Ana Planning/Building Department will discuss landscaping and remodeling in Park Santiago. Before starting out on a project to enhance your house or change your garden to be water wise, learn what is recommended by the experts

8.    Introductions: In attendance: Béa, Michael, James; no QRs  except Rick M., Dolores & Veronica
9.    Secretary’s report: determine quorum, approve minutes from June meeting (Béa) No quorum; no minutes approval
10. Treasurer’s report – Bill absent; no report
11. Committee reports. If anyone from any committee has a report, please share. Committees include:
·      Traffic – Peggy W. reported that the last TC meeting didn’t go well. Holly R. said she continues to be concerned about traffic on Santa Clara. Both women said police are out regularly monitoring that part of the neighborhood and issuing tickets. Peggy said Kathy and the traffic engineering dept. have the survey results. A suggestion was made that the survey results be posted in the next newsletter. John Joseph Miranda—Holly’s husband—agreed to co-chair the traffic committee with her. *
·      Community Watch – Rick M. will work with the old CW
·      Communications, including e-news, Newsletter, and Website
·      Hoover linkage – Bobbie  
·      Hospitality (including upcoming Progressive Dinner) – Christine, who is in charge, is out of town; but Sue M. led a discussion of an update on the the event, planned Sept. 26.
·      Santiago Park – Béa reported the city wants to place a community garden in the park. Neighbors complained about an increase in homeless people in the park.
·      Budget
·      Elections and bylaws
12. Next meeting: Oct. 7. Topic/speaker suggestion: Sue said she’d like someone from community preservation to speak. Sue will try to find someone from the city to speak on this issue.
13. Announcements/other:
– Teresa Mercado-Cota, an assistant dean from Santa Ana College, spoke about the centennial celebration Sept. 19. Disney will bring their “imagination playground” to the event. Food trucks, wine and beer, vintage cars, and more will be available. Parking will be free. The event will end with a huge fireworks show.
14. Concerns about loud parties on Virginia – Dolores is developing a flyer to address the issue and get neighbors involved with quieting the issue.
